Ho-hum

1 min read
Back for a visit, hopefully.

Feeling a bit on the artsy tidbit, and hopefully once I get back from Afghanistan I'll be more productive. Feeling awfully inspired as of late, and suddenly have the inclination that I might be able to get good at drawing, and I might be able to take some beautiful pictures again, and I might be able to get around to doing these things. We'll see.

Good to be back, hopefully dA treats me well.

Okay, a quick little journal update here.

I've been wanting to get a tattoo for about a year now using clear ultra-violet reactive ink. And I think I am finally ready to get it done. But unfortunately I have no artistic talent when it comes to freehanding stuff, so I need to find someone to help me out here. I'd be willing to pay a commission price if necessary, so long as it looks really good.

Basically what I want to have done is my whole right arm, yes even underneath, from the top of my shoulder down to my wrist with a kind of tribal/circuit/cyberpunk design. So maybe lots of asian/mayan/middle-eastern/futuristic influences but nothing that can really be pegged down to a single culture or anything. I don't want it to be too loose of a design, nor too tight really. Nor leaning more towards the tribal than the cyberpunk. Something that flows well and has a lot of good asymmetry. It doesn't even need to be for the full arm if you don't have the time to do it all, just something that the artist I choose to do the tattoo can base his/her design off of.

So if any of you are interested or know some fabulous tattoo artists, let me know so we can talk! I don't expect much in the way of responses, but you  have to start asking somewhere, right?

New Life

2 min read
I am now in (or at least relatively close to) Seattle. I move into my apartment around August 15th hopefully (right now I live about 20 minutes outside of the city), and should be working full-time at Barnes and Noble by the week's end. Free books and employee discounts, woo. Oh, and a paycheck. That too. I've had to keep myself from spending my last $100 on books, telling myself that that is extremely impractical for one, and that I'll be getting them basically free in a week anyways.

Anyways, I am in my favourite city in the world, art school is just coming over the horizon, and that means that I should hopefully be uploading stuff here again! I'll have access to a developing room and all at school so I can develop all my old rolls of black and white film, I'm motivated and invigorated by the sweet Seattle air to start writing again (and what with playwriting classes, my projects will be numerous and ripe for uploading here), and on the whole, even though it's still working on crawling to a start, life is going well.

I had some ideas a few weeks ago about venturing into a genre of literature and film that I can find no substantial work in (much less hardly any mention of), and that is the genre of psychopunk, a sub-genre of cyberpunk, which is one of my many sci-fi obsessions. I'm not sure how to go about putting down my story ideas and all, because I really want to form it into a black and white choppy movie shot on standard8 film, but I doubt I'll ever get around to having the resources and motivation to completing that. So, I'm thinking of writing it out in story form, but that's drawing up a blank. Very hard to try and think of ways to express through just words what goes on in a world where reality, perceived realities, drug-augmented realities, and memory splices are key characters of the story themselves. We'll see. May just write up a quick short story or something as a test. Who knows! Whatever the case, the screenplay/chapters/short story/storyboards/whathaveyou will end up here.

Enjoy life folks!

Curses, the first time I have been tagged with this rubbish!

-----

1. Grab the book nearest to you, turn to page 18, and find line 4.
"... your average tosser of coins depends upon a law, or..."

2. Stretch your left arm out as far as you can.
Monologues, monitors, pens, papers with scribbles, CDs, doodads.

3. What is the last thing you watched on TV?
Amadeus

4. Without looking, guess what time it is?
8:48?

5. Now look at the clock. What is the actual time?
8:43

6. With the exception of the computer, what can you hear?
The distant pulse of cars on the road, if I try really hard.

7. When did you last step outside? What were you doing?
About 10 minutes ago. I was coming home from Garret Staten's.

8. Before you started this survey, what did you look at?
My bed.

9. What are you wearing?
Button up shirt, yard pants, and boxers.

10. Did you dream last night?
'course I did. I don't remember the dream too vividly, however, if at all.

11. When did you last laugh?

12. What is on the walls of the room you are in?
Techno posters, wall sconces, a shield, a map of Middle Earth, a dry erase board with scribbles, coat of arms, christmas lights, and swords.

13. Seen anything weird lately?
A growth on a dog. Poor dog was probably trying to reproduce via mitosis because it had been neutered. Crazy mutant evolutions.

14. What do you think of this quiz?
*shrugs* I am bound by a sense of duty.

15. What is the last film you saw?
Amadeus

16. If you became a multi-millionaire overnight, what would you buy?
College tuition. That's about it. Maybe a winco sub and some coke. The rest can be banked or donated.

17. Tell me something about you that I don't know:
You wouldn't think it to look at me, but I actually don't walk correctly. I ride the inside of my foot :(

18. If you could change one thing about the world, regardless of guilt or politics, what would you do?
Rain down the apocalypse, but in a manner that myself and all my friends, plus about 2% of the rest of the world's population, would survive so we could enjoy the lawless and free post-apocalyptic world.

19. Do you like to dance?
Sure do! Tap, rave, ballroom! You name it, I love it.

20. George Bush:
Bastard stealing my college tuition money!

21. Imagine your first child is a girl, what do you call her?:
Caesura sounds nice about now.

22. Imagine your first child is a boy, what do you call him?:
This is harder. Artagan, maybe D'Artagnan? *shrugs* The name will come when it is needed, though names are taken far more seriously these days than they should be.

23. Would you ever consider living abroad?
I live abroad every day. In my noodle. I'd rather constantly travel abroad, like a nomad. Living abroad isn't nearly as exciting as going everywhere.

24. What do you want God to say to you when you reach the pearly gates?
"So uh... now that that's done with, wanna go get some shakes or somethin'?"

25. 5 people who must also do this in THEIR journal:
Hah, you think I KNOW 5 people? Much less 5 people Scotty didn't already name or that I would expect to read my journals and be compelled to do so as well!?

Clearly this journal needs to spend more time with me :D

Now that some of the dust is gone!

Tada! I'm back, sorta. I have neglected this place for too long, and now it's time to get back into the rev of things and start churning out more work. This time it's going to be a bit different, though. So, because I'm bored at the moment, and need to straighten out what exactly I am going to be doing here, I'm going to list off what kinda things I'm hoping to do with my return!

Artistic Semi-Nudes: Maybe a bit of a shock, but I've always really wanted to try out black and white artistic semi-nudes. Ya know, not the full on "Uhhh... porn?" pics, but the subtle and truly artistic type. Should be fun!

Vector Art: The big one. I recently discovered how incredibly AWESOME vector art is, and so I'm going to attempt my own shot at it. Right now I'm working with some reference photos and trying to recreate some of the styles you see around here on dA to get used to the pen tool and Illustrator in general, and get a grasp on just what kind of work I'm looking at. Should also be very, very fun. I'm loving it so far.

More Maps: Yes, you heard me right! MORE maps! I'm going to make a point of putting together one complete map a week (not coloured or anything, just my straight penned out versions with city names) with as much of an explanation for the cities, the people, the religions, topography, flora, fauna, and so on. This is most to get me into the groove of writing again and applying short stories to the maps I've created based on the map (because culture is always founded by the geographical location, not the other way as many of todays "Best" Fantasy writers would have you think, PAH!) So anyways, that will hopefully work out for every week, and then every month I hope to choose a map from the previous month that I like the most, and try to put together a short story, or maybe a folk-tale that the people of that land are familiar with, or something to that effect.

So um, yes! That's what's going on. Sounds like a lot now that I look at it, but hopefully I can pull it off, hehe. Looking forward to commenting on all of your fabulous works as well, and interacting with all you lovely people once again :D

EDIT: Alrighty folks, I'm going to be doing my best to stay in the Nerd Herd chat from around 8ish PM PST to until whenever I go to bed for the next few weeks. So if you'd like to hop in and regale each other with tales of nerdom or just chill over a cup of e-coffee (or your barista-brewed beverage of choice,) then come on in and do so!

Most Indubitably Yours,
-Derycke
